Vintage ashwood & mahogany highboard by Louis Paolozzi for René Godfrid, 1950

Beautiful two-piece china cabinet by Louis Paolozzi published by René Godfrid in the 1950s. Louis Paolozzi worked frequently with René Godfrid to offer a series of innovative and useful furniture for the home. A beautiful period advertisement can be seen in the photo. The upper part of the sideboard is made of ash wood and is fitted on the mahogany base. It has a sliding door revealing two shelves on one side, and two flaps revealing a bar area lined with green felt and a new storage area with a shelf on the other. There are also two entablature drawers and a removable rattan shelf. L. Paolozzi's design on this china cabinet is all about curves. The sides are curved, the handles are also openwork, the drawers have softened edges... Indeed, the rounded lines of the furniture contrast with the straight lines of the ash grain. It is supported by a slightly darker mahogany compass base. The shelves are removable and adjustable in height. Atypical piece of furniture with multiple uses. Its honey patina captures the light elegantly. Slightly missing rattan on the right outer edge.
