Vintage pendant lamp "Trava" by Carl Thore for Granhaga Metallindustri, Sweden 1970s

This is the iconic series of Swedish designer Carl Thores pendant light called "Trava". The Trava pendant light which was undoubtably Carl Thores best selling creation was made in two versions, three sizes and many different colors. This is the smallest version in golden colored brushed aluminum. It consists of six circular discs of directed upwards and down creating a perfectly symmetric shade. In this version the inside of the discs have a matte orange lacquer in order to project a fire like reflection on the golden finish. This one also has a golden metal cup at the top covering the light bulb socket, a very rare elegant feature. Great condition with very minimal signs of use. Standard E27 socket. Designers label still intact. The real name of the designer known as Carl Thore was Sigurd Lindkvist, and he was born in 1916 in Åmal in Sweden’s Dalsland. After working for a lighting firm called Luko, in 1961 Lindkvist joined Granhaga Metallindustri, for whom he designed lights and was also head of sales, remaining with the company until he retired in around 1981. Lindkvist adopted the pseudonym Carl Thore for his Granhaga light designs on the spur of the moment when he was presenting the lights to a client who asked the identity of the designer. “Carl Thore,” Lindkvist blurted out, these being his two middle names.
