Over dit vintage designmeubel

Jeff Messerschmidt style console table, Lucite, gold plated gilt & glass, 1970’s ca, American. This console table has been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina and is ready to use. The curving glass top with bevelled edge is original to the piece. This vintage console table is most likely designed by Jeff Messerschmidt based on a number of attributes. The use of bent Lucite piping & gold plated bolts holding the frame at the two corners are similar to Jeff Messerschmidt’s ’Pipeline Series II 1972-89’ armchairs. While Messerschmidt pieces are usually signed & dated this console is not. With sinusoidal curves of the earlier Art Nouveau style, this console is a reinterpretation of Antoni Gaudi’s organic’s style Modernism. In this case the design is executed in materials classic to the 1970’s, Lucite, glass & gold plated gilt. The decorative oversized bow in the centre is a playful Post-Modern detail. The flow of movement in design is impressive, leaving the mind to wonder how this table stands up. The result is artistic, playful and a feminine twist on the usual auster Modernism. This sculptural piece would be perfect at the entry or top of the stairs where the form could be appreciated. The unique combination of Modernism & Art Noveau style, together with the use of luxury materials, make this console a fun addition to a range of interiors such as Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, 70’s Glamour, Traditional or Contemporary. Structurally there are two continuous Lucite pipes which curve & bend. In two places these approximate just enough to support the glass top. It is here where a bold decorative gilt bolt holds the frame together. Thin metal gilt tubing supports the frame in four other places: crossing between the front & back, and banding from left to right. The Lucite piping & gilt tubing are all held together at the feet which are also gold plated. The quality 10 mm clear glass top is the original vintage. It has a similar Art Nouveau organic shape further highlighted with a bevelled edge of 15 mm. This removable glass top sits on 3 portions of the frame, securely attached to 3 clear suction cups. This vintage console table is in very good condition. The Lucite portions of the frame are sound and in very good condition with no cracks or discoloration. The gold plated gilt metal surfaces are all in very good condition, the gilt is intact with only a couple of tiny superficial marks in line with age & wear. The original vintage glass top is in very good condition, with no major chips and only a couple of tiny nibbles on the edge hardly noticeable in line with age. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. The glass top would be removed and wrapped separately in bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. The frame would have bubble wrap and an outer layer of card. This table would fit easily in a box for safe shipping. Additional dimensions: The glass top has a depth of 10 mm. The bevelled edge has a width of 15mm. JEFF MESSERSCHMIDT BIOGRAPHY Jeff Messerschmidt is an American artist & furniture designer known for his pioneering use of acrylic & Lucite.
