Vintage pendant lamp "Trava" in golden aluminium by Carl Thore for Granhaga Metallindustri, Sweden 1970s

This is the iconic series of Swedish designer Carl Thores pendant light called "Trava". The Trava pendant light which was undoubtably Carl Thore best selling creation was made in two versions, three sizes and many different colors. This is the large version with the opac band at the centre. Apart from the plastic centre it consists of six circular discs directed upwards and down creating a perfectly symmetric shade. The discs have a brushed aluminum golden finish on the top and are white inside for a neutral light projection. Good over all condition but with some scratches and slight damage to the edge of one disc. Standard E27 light bulb socket. Designers label still intact. Rewired for safety. The real name of the designer known as Carl Thore was Sigurd Lindkvist, and he was born in 1916 in Åmal in Sweden’s Dalsland. After working for a lighting firm called Luko, in 1961 Lindkvist joined Granhaga Metallindustri, for whom he designed lights and was also head of sales, remaining with the company until he retired in around 1981. Lindkvist adopted the pseudonym Carl Thore for his Granhaga light designs on the spur of the moment when he was presenting the lights to a client who asked the identity of the designer. “Carl Thore,” Lindkvist blurted out, these being his two middle names.
