The characteristic, beautiful electric blue glaze applied generously fascinates with its charm. The crystalline glaze used here is characterized by its unpredictability, beauty and the fact that it is extremely difficult to tame this technique. It is applied in thick layers. The technique is characterized by the fact that it is impossible to determine where the crystals will form. Their distribution is always random. You can influence their size by temperature, and by individual metal oxides on their color, but the rest remains a matter of chance. This is why crystalline glazes make every object covered with them unique. KUNSTTÖPFEREI UNTERSTAB (Unterstab Art Pottery), a.k.a. KTU, is a ceramics workshop founded in the early 1960s in the tiny district town of Langenhessen in Saxony in the former GDR by the couple Ralf and Gudrun Unterstab.
