Vintage desk lamp by Enzo Mari and Giancarlo Fassina for Artemide, 1974

Aggregato is a real lighting system that includes a set of basic elements (eleven components) which can be assembled to make 72 models of lamps according to different types and needs. It was designed by Enzo Mari and Giancarlo Fassina in 1974 for Artemide. Enzo Mari recalls: I start from a utopia. That the company (Artemide) would produce some separate components that could be bought by the public, who could solve their own specific lighting needs, from the ceiling to the table and so on. Ernesto Gismondi (patron of Artemide), who knows the market well, disagrees, saying that it is impossible to sell something like that. However, he took up the idea and Artemide put the eleven basic elements (lamps, rods, joints, light bulbs, etc.) into production, combining them into seventy-two pre-assembled models. This table or desk model has a structure in painted metal and aluminium, a conical diffuser in white methacrylate. Thanks to the two double ball joints it can be oriented in any position.
