LCW Chair by Charles & Ray Eames in rosewood santos Vintage original model Herman Miller edition, 2000 This chair is the fruit of the first experiments carried out by Charles and Ray Eames as early as 1945 on the moulding of plywood. It is described as "aesthetic brilliance and technical inventiveness" by Eliot Noyes, director of the MoMA's industrial design department in 1946. Created by the moulding of plywood, it was designed to bring optimal comfort to the greatest number of people. The Eames studied the structure of the bones of the human body in order to perfect their moulding. Modelled and tested hundreds of times, the final chair has two parts: the back and the petal-shaped seat. The LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) is published by Herman Miller in the United States and licensed by Vitra in Europe. Thanks to the organic lines of the shells and the slightly flexible backs, these light and compact lounge chairs are extremely comfortable.
