Vintage pendant lamp Kina by Bent Karlby for Lyfa, Denmark 1960s

The "Kina" opaline glass and brass pendant light was created by Bent Karlby in the mid 1950s and came in several versions and sizes. This is a medium size light which measures 31 centimeters in height including the brass bar that attach to the cable. The opaline glass is in great condition and fully intact without any damage. End the brass is in exceptional condition. A very versatile pendant light that has high decorative value as well as a soft and pleasant functional light. It takes a standard E27 light bulb. Danish architect-designer Bent Karlby was born in Århus in 1912 and graduated from his hometown’s technical school around 1932. During World War II, he joined the Danish resistance movement, contributing to the illegal Danish Journal and assisting Dansk-Svensk refugees. Most of Karlby’s lighting designs for Lyfa possess a “Space Age” aesthetic expressed in metal, acrylic, or glass. Karlby passed away in 1998.
