Vintage pine T510 "Glade" pendant lamp by Hans-Agne Jakobsson for Ellysett AB, Sweden 1960

The T510 "Glade" pendant luminaire in pine veneer was designed in 1963 by the legendary Hans-Agne Jakobsson for Ellysett AB in the town of Markaryd, Sweden. It consists of 9 rings of pine veneer on a pine frame forming a cone from top to bottom. When lit, it produces a surprisingly warm and decorative lighting effect. It has been made in two sizes and this one is the smallest version with a diameter of 30 cm. This type of construction with thin sheets of veneer carefully folded around a wooden frame was first invented by Hans-Agne Jacobsson and produced by the Ellysett company. Jakobsen was a master in the art of inventing new ways of using various materials for lamps and came up with the idea of passing light through thin veneer in this way. Very good condition and unusually decorative wood grain. A small break as can be seen on a picture. The history of the invention of this type of lamp: "Hans Agne Jacobsen accidentally invented the laminated pine light fixtures during a Christmas decoration in Markaryd's store. He wanted to soften some of the dazzling light bulbs, had laminated pine around him and quickly assembled some temporary fixtures. A customer came in and wanted to buy the arrangement and Hans -Agne Jakobsson ended up with an item that was unprecedented. The laminated pine luminaires have become an export success that has been sold in almost every corner of the world".
