Über dieses Vintage-Designmöbel
Unfortunately, very little is known about the Danish designer Svend Åge Madsen. Most of the information comes from catalogues and inventory lists of the time, which shows us that while some of his designs date from the late 1950s, the overwhelming majority of Madsen's furniture was designed and produced in the 1960s. He was known to have worked with several Danish manufacturers and cabinetmakers, including H.P. and Sigurd Hansen, K. Knudsen and Son and NB Mobelfabrik, and his design work embodied the modern Danish style. Although his designs were never very popular, he is best known for his desks and favoured the warmth of teak, walnut and rosewood in his work. His style is characterised by a minimum of decorative detail and he focuses instead on angles, slopes and arches to create flowing organic silhouettes. Most of these elements are highlighted in this chair, which has a simple shape built in walnut and is then raised out of the ordinary by the angular supports of the gilded teak backrest. This makes the chair not only comfortable to sit on, but also pleasant to look at. It is presented in good original condition with a few marks on the frame depending on its age and use. It also has the original upholstery which has no major stains, holes or tears in the fabric. It is discreetly elegant and can be used as a dressing table or office chair, or as an occasional chair.
