Vintage Sideboard - Kurt Østervig - Brande Møbelfabrik - Rosewood Danish 1950

Exceptional Scandinavian thread of the Danish designer Kurt Østervig published by Brande Møbelfabrik. Kurt Østervig is probably one of the most recognized Scandinavian designers. His work focuses on wood; the very essence of wood is for him the heart of all furniture. During the 1950s and 1960s, he designed remarkable pieces, including enfilades, some of which are exhibited in major museums such as the MoMA in New York. This enfilade is worked in Rio rosewood. It consists of 4 sliding doors and 3 drawers. One can easily see the symmetry of the wood grain on these doors. This is the result of an exceptional work of cutting the rosewood veneer. The 2 doors on the left reveal a series of 6 drawers lined with green felt on the far left and 3 shelves right next to them. These two parts are separated by a partition. The 2 doors on the right discover a large non-partitioned compartment with 2 shelves. Underneath is a large central drawer and 2 smaller ones on the sides. The wood grain is magnificent, especially on the top and the ribs where the knots and veins of the rosewood blend together to form beautiful patterns. The furniture is beautifully finished on the frame or the handles. In addition, the colour contrast is subtle, the lines are minimalist and the proportions are elegant. It is without a doubt an exceptional piece of work in every respect. The left drawer reveals a "FURNITURE MAKERS . DANISH CONTROL.". Finally, underneath this drawer is visible a stamp of manufacture as well as a serial number: "BRANDE MØBELFABRIK. 1169".
