Über dieses Vintage-Designmöbel

Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe at his Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic, the Brno Chair (model number MR50) reflects the ground breaking simplicity of van der Rohe’s design using a simple cantilever frame. There are two versions of the chair; one in tubular steel and the other in flat steel and the original design dates back to 1930. The metal was originally polished stainless steel but more modern examples from around the 1970s onwards were produced in chromed steel by Knoll International and Knoll Studio who have owned the license to the design since the mid 1960s. There have been numerous copies of the chairs made since their inception but chairs that were produced in the last 30 years have become much easier to recognise by virtue of the stamped Knoll branding and van der Rohe signature in the chrome work and Knoll branded material used on the underside of the chair. In addition originals have a height of just over 30 inches (78cms) as opposed to more mass produced items which are generally a couple of inches taller. The 6 offered here are in excellent condition, save just a few small spot marks to the suede (as shown in the pictures). However, these are hardly noticeable given the nap on the suede constantly changes when it is touched, brushed or sat on. They date from around the late 80’s and the chrome work is also in excellent condition with all marks and branding present on each chair. Each monitor will view colour differently but as a guide the colour is a greymushroom but can look lighter or darker depending on which way the nap is brushed. The original chair also comes in a range of seat firmness foams and these are the slimmer, firmer option which in any event would be my choice as it more closely matches the original design which was renowned for its clean, sharp lines contrasting against the sinuous curve of the frame. Seat height 45cm
