Large vintage ceramic dish by Roger Capron, 1960

Large dish in stanniferous earthenware by Roger Capron in Vallauris, decoration in relief with spirals and blue and white checkerboard. Signed below Capron Vallauris. Perfect condition. Diameter 31cm, height 5cm. CAPRON Roger (1922-2006) Professor in Applied Arts, Capron is interested at first in drawing. He discovered the work of ceramics in Vallauris before Picasso, and created the Callis workshop with Robert Picault. He founded his own studio in 1952 and sold his collections, notably in the United States to the department store Saks Fifth Avenue. He received awards in numerous international exhibitions in Milan, Brussels, Cannes... From 1963 onwards, he gradually abandoned shaped pieces for decorative tiles used in architecture: wall panels, building lobbies, stores.
