The iconic Eurostar swivel Armchair designed by Phillipe Starck for Cassina c.2000 especially for the Premier Salon Lounge, Eurostar Terminal, Paris and London (2002). Enveloping armchair with metal shell swiveling on a central leg with a circular base, entirely upholstered in tawny leather, adjustable circular shelf on the right. Only 100 copies have been made: 44 for the Business Eurostar of "Gare du Nord" in Paris, France and 56 for the "Salon Business of the Eurostar terminal lounge in London, UK. Condition report: Good original condition of the leather and the structure - Wear and tear on the 50cm base and the back. Please refer o the pictures. There are two chairs available, please check the other listing. About the designer: Philippe Starck. Born in Paris in 1949. Son of a French aeronautical engineer and inventor. He studied interior architecture and design at the École Nissim de Camondo, Paris. In 1976 he founded the company “Starck Product”. Designing the private rooms of François Mitterrand at the Élysée Palace made him famous. The Café Costes in Paris made him an international star. In 1995, he created a new category with the Delano boutique hotel in Miami: designer hotels. He has long been successful in international residential projects: Under the name Yoo, Philippe Starck creates outstanding apartments at unique locations all over the world. In 2000 Philippe Starck received the National Order of the Legion of Honour. One of numerous coveted distinctions which he has been awarded over the course of his career, which spans more than 30 years. In addition to furniture, electronics, and product design, Starck has tackled several larger-scale designs, like the Alhóndiga Cultural & Leisure Centure in Bilbao (2010), Port Adriano Harbor in Palma de Mallorca (2012), Apple CEO Steve Jobs’s yacht (2012), P.A.T.H Prefabricated Homes for Riko (2013), and Le Nuage Sports Center in Montpellier (2014), among many others. Starck’s work can be found in most European and American museums, including the Musée National d’Art Moderne and Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, and Design Museum London. The Pompidou Center hosted a Starck retrospective in 2003. His many awards are too numerous to name.
