Vintage Mah Jong Missoni sectional living room set by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois, 1970s

Originally designed by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois in 1971, the Mah Jong sofa has become a design classic. Since its original conception, Roche Bobois has collaborated with a variety of design houses to upholster the sofa, and this set features fabric from the Missoni Home range. Comprising of five pieces, the set upholstered in a mixture of colours, fabrics and textures to create a bright and bold combination. The three square floor cushions are button tufted and finished in orange, teal and purple Designers Guild velvet. The corner back module is upholstered in a Missoni Home turquoise, pink and gold chevron fabric and the straight back module is upholstered in a Missoni Home multi-coloured stripe fabric. Incredibly versatile, the floor cushions can be stacked to create different heights, while the modular set can be configured into a corner or arranged to create a variety of seating options. The informal style of the sofa gives a relaxed and playful aesthetic, while the combination of comfort and flexibility makes it the perfect option for any contemporary living space.
