Pair of vintage chairs S43 by Mart Stam Thonet

The Thonet S43 Chairs, designed by Mart Stam, is one of the first cantilever models in furniture history. All Mart Stam furniture designs are characterized by their sleek shape, their pure construction and high seating comfort. On the S43, he combined the tubular steel frame with a molded plywood shell for the seat and backrest. With this he has created an absolutely minimalist design. Upholstery is not required due to the comfortably sprung frame. The sleek, restrained design gives the classic cantilever a contemporary appearance. Today, Thonet holds the artistic rights to this strictly cube-shaped chair without hind legs. This set of 2 white S43’s are in good used condition with beautiful patina. See pictures.
