Danish Mid Century extending rosewood dining table and 8 Arne Hovmand Olsen teak dining chairs

A large extending Gunni Omann Model 55 rosewood extending dining table matched to 8 Arne Hovand Olsen dark teak and blue fabric rail back chairs. Produced by Omann Jun Mobelfabrik in the 1960s this very practical extending dining table can be easily adapted by the use of the 3 additional leaves to fit any space or occasion. Starting at 120cm diameter each leaf adds 50cm allowing the table to seat 4, 6, 8 or 10. The extending structure is unusual for this period as it was one of the few tables of that era to use metal glides which benefit from being easier to use and not prone to the sticking of wooden glide tables that can be affected by humidity. It also has the benefit of an additional central leg support that can simply be folded out as required when the table is at full extension to add more rigidity. The table is matched to a set of 8 dark teak Arne Hovand Olsen rail back chairs that are a classic design of his produced by Mogens Kold also in the 1960s. These particular chairs, with the rail back and gently curved stretchers, have a more refined rustic shape than Olsen’s other designs and the colour, although teak, suits the table well. They would have originally been produced with the paper cord seats but as with many chairs from the 60s the paper cord has long since perished and has been replaced by padding and fabric. However, this actually makes them more comfortable and easier to maintain. Both the table and chairs are in very good vintage condition and maintain their original qualities. The table top and leaves therefore, whilst having been beautifully restored at some time, has been kept with an open grain, varnished finish in common with many Danish tables of the 60s. Likewise the chairs, although having been professionally upholstered, maintain their original finish which is in good order. Both the table and chairs have a few knocks and marks here and there just as you would expect, and the corn flower blue upholstery is in excellent condition with no stains, marks, holes or tears.
