Vintage Set of dining table and chair Beech bentwood compact Alvar Aalto Rud Thygesen Danish

A sturdy and well-made bentwood dining table with six matching chairs designed by Danish designer Rud Thygesen for Farstrup (table) and Magnus Olesen (chairs). This is a compact set which is ideal for a small space as the table has a relatively small footprint for a 6 seater table at just 140cm wide by 70cm deep and the chairs stack easily in pairs. Rud Thygesen is a notable Danish designer and is one of the number of new Danish designers that came to the fore in the latter part of the 20th Century. The table and chairs are very reminiscent of Alvar Aalto’s designs using a simple frame of bent Beech wood. The sky blue inset in the table top is actually linoleum which is not as strange as you might think as many later Danish designs used this material for table tops as it’s very practical, durable and easy to maintain and clean. It also adds colour to the table and as it’s self-coloured light scratches and marks can normally be polished out. The set is in very good used condition and has some small marks in the top as you would expect and some small knocks and marks to the frames of both table and chairs consistent with age and use. The powder blue upholstery on all the chairs is in good condition with no holes, tears or stains save one chair back (as shown marked with a white circle) which has a darker mark in the material and some wear on the top edgecorner.
