Mid-century chrome and black leather high-back office armchair Supporto by Frederick Scott for ICF Milano, 1980s

The stunning Supporto office chair (designed by Frederick Scott in 1976) was produced in the office furniture factory ICF Milano. Frederick Scott’s career spans nearly 40 years of celebrated furniture design. As an apprentice cabinet and chair maker from 1956, he won a number of awards. Frederick trained as a cabinetmaker in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, before gaining a scholarship to the Royal College of Art to study furniture design, and from there embarked on a well documented and successful freelance career, working with many manufacturers in the UK and abroad. From 1969, he worked as a freelance designer for Hille where in 1976 he designed System Supporto which was conceived as a comprehensive range of office furniture the chair was launched in 1980 and immediately won national and international acclaim. ‘An office chair designed to cut through the hierarchy of office seating’ is how Frederick described the Supporto chair. This is a work of art in the modern style. Frame in polished chrome, thick soft Italian leather in excellent condition. Both the height and seat back are adjustable. The chair weighs 16.5 kg.
