“Sarapis” stool designed by Philippe Starck for Driade A ubiquitous name in the world of contemporary architecture and design, Philippe Starck has created everything from hotel interiors and luxury yachts to toothbrushes. Yet, for each project in its diverse portfolio, Starck has maintained an instantly recognizable signature style: a dynamic, elegant, fluid and witty look. No less is the Sarapis stool, designed in 1986 for the Italian firm Driade, a stool with minimal lines, whose extreme rigidity is broken by the curve that supports the small backrest and by the (arched) bar on which to place the feet. These are the only two curves present in the extremely linear stool, curves that contribute to giving a minimum of movement to the seat itself by breaking its verticality. The seat is also made of a dense steel mesh perforated by many small squares that emphasize the overall rigor of the valuable product. In gray tubular, with a seat in steel mesh it has gradually become an icon of international design. A functional and minimalist design that is still current.
