About this vintage design furniture
DS 5 sideboard designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Published by Cassine. Italy, 90s. Very good condition with signs of use. Light wear in relation with its age. See detailed photos as they are part of the item description. Defects to note are indicated (if any). This Charles Rennie Mackintosh sideboard is one of a series of models designed by Mackintosh supposedly for the country home of W.J. Basset-Lowke. They were not produced during Mackintosh's lifetime and are known only from a pencil and watercolor drawing now in the collection of the University of Glasgow. The design of the stained glass panel of the sideboard is not shown in Mackintosh's drawing. The present reproduction uses Mackintosh's design of the "weeping rose" as he first used it in 1900 on the desk of musician Michael Diak. The weeping rose design was a favorite of Mackintosh's and he used it on other stained glass panels and cabinets. Charles Rennie Mackintosh is known as one of the most creative and talented architects and interior designers of the 20th century. Many of his furniture, glass and architectural designs have gained popularity over 100 years later. His distinctive Art Nouveau style is easily recognizable. The Charles Rennie Mackintosh sideboard is made of ash wood with a black stain finish. Materials: Ash wood sideboard with mother of pearl inlay and leaded glass panel centerpiece.
