Mackintosh (Charles Rennie)

5 results
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Mackintosh studied at the local art school before joining the architectural firm of Honeyman & Keppie. It was here that he designed his masterpiece, the Glasgow School of Art, which is considered an outstanding example of Art Nouveau architecture. In addition to his work as an architect, Mackintosh was also a renowned furniture and interior designer. With his wife Margaret Macdonald, also an artist and designer, he created works of decorative art that influenced the Arts and Crafts movement. His designs are characterized by clean lines, judicious use of color and attention to detail. Although Mackintosh was not commercially successful during his lifetime, his work was rediscovered and appreciated after his death. Today, he is considered one of the greatest architects and designers in Scottish history, and his influence is still visible in contemporary design.
