Ercol Dining Table An excellent exampled of a rectangular 1960’s Ercol Windsor utility dining table CC41 in Beech and Elm Lucian Ercolani designed this famous piece, which was made in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Ercol furniture is known for its good design, high-quality fabrics, expert craftsmanship, and durability. During WWII, the government established the CC41 (Civilian Clothing 1941) scheme to enable civilians to use their rations to replace items lost in the Blitz. The program lasted from 1942 to 1952. Several furniture companies, including Ercol and G Plan, gained popularity for developing utility furniture that used fewer resources than the dark, ornate pieces of the pre-war era. The government’s order was crucial to Ercol, and it helped the company grow into what we all know as the best-selling ’Windsor’ furniture line that is so popular today. The top rectangular (blonde finish) is made of beautifully figured solid elm planks with the grain running the length of the piece. The solid beech foundation has tapering legs and an H-shaped stretcher formation that protrudes at either end.
