Pair of vintage French horse bookends in brass & leather, 1950s

Vintage horse bookends, Maison Charles style, brass & leather, 1950’s ca, French These items have been gently cleaned while respecting the vintage patina. They are ready to use. These vintage bookends, although not signed, were probably made by French Company Maison Charles. They are in keeping with Maison Charles’ quality and detail. They have several distinctive design features: the horse sculptures, elegant proportions, luxury materials, quality casting & heavy weight. With the equestrian theme & sculptural presence, these bookends would suit a range of interiors such as Antique, Country, Traditional, Hollywood Regency, Post Modern, Industrial or Contemporary. The design is classic, timeless and decorative. Each bookend combines a solid polished brass horse head sculpture with an L shaped plinth. They have a good weight and each solid brass figure is individually quality cast. The L shaped bases are in solid wood, covered in leather, in a shade of brownterracotta colour. The bottom sides are also covered to protect the surfaces below. The leather sides are decorated with stamped straight lines following the edges plus brass pins. The horse head is fitted on the vertical portion of the base. Each sculpture is of similar design but playfully fitted showing opposite different sides of the head, when look frontally, for a more interesting decorative effect. These bookends sell together and the price is for the pair. The books are for display only and not included in the sale. Both vintage bookends are in good condition for its age. The brass sculptures are in very good condition, with the original warm patina present. The bases are both sound, the leather surfaces in good condition with a good warm patina and minor marks, tiny loses & rubbing in line with age & wear. Packing is offered free of charge. We take special professional care while packing. For safe transport each bookend would be wrapped separately in bubble wrap, foam and an outer layer of card. These would be stacked together and boxed with loose fill packing nuts, safe for posting with a courier. We ship with reliable couriers (signed for, tracked & insured).
