Victor Caniato was born in Italy in 1949. At the age of eight, he joined his parents who had emigrated to France. As a metal worker, he discovered the work of Brancusi, a decisive encounter that led him to study art. He finished his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in 1979 and obtained the "Prix de Paris". He first developed an abstract art, then a figurative art representing essentially the human being by modelling with clay and plaster, faces and emerging bodies. About ten years later, he purified his approach and "only the evocation of humanity became the central subject of his research. "Victor Caniato's materials come from the poor art of contemporary Italians: plaster, iron rods, polystyrene, recycled wood. He uses them to make a rock topped by a small house, a star system in a roll of wire mesh, an abandoned laundry on a staircase. » These representations come from primitive images, tales and legends that make up our common culture. This is how he invents and installs a polysemous mythology. His art seeks to speak to us in a simple and poetic way. Cement, iron and plaster are the elements of this sculpture.
