Pair of vintage armchairs mp-091 by Percival Lafer for Lafer S.A. Brésilien 1960

The MP-091 series are well known and are quite distinctive. These particular armchairs have a frame made of dark jacaranda rosewood, a type of wood native to the Brazilian Amazon. Nowadays, this specific wood species can no longer be exploited due to environmental policies. Therefore, these chairs can be maintained by enthusiasts. In addition to the structure, the armchairs are made of creamy yellow natural leather, fully upholstered. The details are absolutely stunning. The contrasting seams, the 3 vertical leather buckets, the white strips that support the seat underneath and that are connected to the frame and held in place by small round wooden rods in a leather loop, the connecting bolts of the frame, which are already an art in itself, are examples of this. All the assembled details and the design itself create remarkable pieces. The armchairs are in their original condition, even the leather. The armchairs have been remarkably well preserved since the 1960s. The leather has a certain patina, but no cracks or other structural damage. The colour has been very well preserved with only a slight discolouration and the foam is still in good condition. The wooden frame is in very good condition, with only minor traces of use. Of course, the chairs are structurally sound. Original sticker of Lafer S.A. present below on the armchair. One of the armchairs has a small piece of seam missing on the right armrest. This has no influence on the ease of use and the seam is not loose. The same chair also has an extensive patina on the right armrest, probably due to exposure to the sun. There are no cracks, so it is perfectly usable.
