Exceptional work by Valladolid artist Andrés Mende, active during the last decade of the 20th century and the beginning of the present century. His style is largely reminiscent of that of Fernando Zóbel, a Filipino-born artist of international renown. For him, the discovery of the painting of Rothko, Pollock, Kooning... meant a flight from figuration, joining informalism and abstract expressionism. Gradually, however, Zóbel moved away from expressionist dramaturgy, basing his painting on the nakedness of line and the movement suggested by the strokes that cross the paper. Abstract art allows different interpretations or points of view to be generated depending on the recipient, as it does not seek to achieve perfection of line or credible compositions. It is considered art that reaches another dimension of morality and spirituality, as it expresses emotions and sensations distinct from logic and objectivity.
