Janna Straus-Van der Geest (1930-1999) born in Utrecht in the Netherlands felt a kinship with Cobra but also with artists such as Charlotte Molenkamp and Astrid Engels. Janna’s work is very varied. When Janna entered her studio, she was most herself and only did what she felt like. Her mood was decisive. From 1948 to 1951, the Cobra group was a group of mutually inspiring artists from Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. The movement was founded on November 8, 1948 in the Café Notre-Dame in Paris. The name CoBrA is an acronym of the capitals from which the founding members came: Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam. The used language within Cobra was French. Cobra produced several internationally renowned artists, such as Corneille, Karel Appel, Constant. Janna Strauss felt comfortable in this movement that continued for a long time into the 20th century.
