About this vintage design furniture
PLIA folding chair by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli, Italy, 1960s. First published at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1967. Black metal frame with transparent seat and back. Folding chairs. 3 have their original sliding supports at the base of the metal base. 3 have lost these supports. All chairs are in good condition with normal wear for their age. Each chair measures 47cm x 74cm x 44cm - seat height 45cm.Sold as a set of 6. Giancarlo Piretti was born in Bologna in 1940. After studying fine arts at the Academy of Bologna, he began working as an interior designer for Anonima Castelli, designing products for the home and office, as well as for the community. In 1969 he designed Plia, one of the company's historical references, an emblematic example of "made in Italy" design.Over the years he has twice been awarded the "Compasso d'oro adi": for the Vertebra seating system - designed with Emilio Ambasz - and for the Piretti collection, launched in 1988.
