About this vintage design furniture
Founded in the 1950s as a "production cooperative of the metal strip and handle trade in Halle," the company expanded in the 1960s as "VEB metal handle hall" to become East Germany’s leading light metal lamp manufacturer. Most of the lights were anonymous sketches for work, modeled after models from Scandinavia, whose home decor was also heavily influenced in the GDR. Since the 1970s, however, more and more designs have been created in close collaboration with the Burg Giebichenstein School of Industrial Design. By the time the company closed in 2003, several hundred different models had been produced in large quantities and exported to many Western European countries before German reunification. The lamp is preserved in original condition.
