What would Scandinavian design be without Hans Wegner Hans Wegner? It's hard to say, given the decisive role he played in the development and growth of this design style. At a time when the Nordic style lacked flexibility and favoured functionality over aesthetics, Wegner brought a fresh eye, bringing more delicacy, soft curves and light lines to Scandinavian furniture. Wegner designed over 500 armchairs and chairs in the course of his career! He was behind a number of cult pieces that have become design bestsellers. These include the 'Papa Bear' armchair (1954), the 'Round' chair (1949), the 'Ox Chair' armchair (1960) and, of course, the 'Wishbone' chair (1949). [caption id="attachment_6044" align="aligncenter" width="800"] "Papa Bear" chair, "Round" chair and "Ox" chair "Papa Bear" chair, "Round" chair and "Ox" chair [/caption] We wanted to take a closer look at one of these icons: the "Wishbone" chair, also known as the "Y" chair - in homage to its back in the shape of a happy bone - or the "n° CH24" model. This sublime chair was created in 1949 for Carl Hansen & Son. Since its launch, it has been an incredible commercial success, so much so that it has been produced without interruption for 67 years! The Wishbone chair is one of a series of Chinese armchairs inspired by portraits of Danish merchants sitting in Ming chairs. At first glance, the graceful, delicate curves and undeniable elegance of the 'Y' chair are instantly appealing; it looks good from any angle. While the aesthetic qualities of Hans Wegner Hans Wegner's creation are obvious, it's important to point out that its comfort is also a major asset! If you've had the chance to sit on a CH24 chair, you'll know that its spacious seat allows you to change position as you please! The successful sculptural shape and incredible comfort of the 'Y' chair are no accident! No less than 100 hand-crafted steps are required to produce a Wishbone chair. Only sustainable and renewable materials are used to make the models. The seat requires 120 metres of paper rope and over an hour's work, and the result: the weave can withstand up to 50 years! As you can see, the charm of the Wishbone chair is due to its perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality, and of course to its exceptional quality! Whether you're looking for a dining chair, an occasional chair or an office chair, the "Y" model is sure to find its place with ease! It comes in a choice of wood types: beech, oak, ash, walnut and cherry. The woven paper cord seat is available in natural, white or black. And for those who love colour, there are several possible colour combinations. So it's impossible not to find the Wishbone chair of your dreams!
