The Optima pendant lamp, designed by Danish designer Hans Due in 1972, embodies the spirit of the year when the last moon landing took place. Back then, people dreamed of the proximity of the first space stations on the moon and the anticipated flight to Mars.
This fascination with space can perhaps explain the lamp's UFO-like shape. But in addition to this inspiration, Due also had practical considerations: he wanted to create a lamp that would not obstruct the view when sitting around the dining table with others.
The Optima is available in three versions, and this particular lamp is the largest variant, with a diameter of 50 cm.
The lamp is in good vintage condition. There are some minimal scratches present, and if you look closely, you can also see some latex splatters on the lamp. However, these splatters are in the same color white, so they are hardly noticeable.
