The DKR "Bikini" chairs by Charles and Ray Eames, manufactured by Vitra, are iconic design objects that captivate with their unique mix of materials and innovative form. The DKR, a "Dining Height K-Wire Shell Chair", was originally designed in the 1950s and is a prime example of experimentation with industrial materials and organic shapes. The filigree wire frame is reminiscent of an Eiffel Tower structure and gives the chair both stability and a light appearance. The chair is nicknamed "Bikini" because of the characteristic upholstery, which lies on the wire construction like a narrowly cut cover and covers the seat and backrest. This upholstery increases seating comfort and emphasizes the aesthetics of the design.
