Product description
Black Saturn lounge chair designed by Yrjö Kukkapuro for Haimi Finland. Leather, fiberglass, metal. Finland '60s.
Beautiful easy chair in patinated black leather. Organically shaped chair made of molded fiberglass frame and seat with thick cushions. Rotates 360 degrees.
Yrjö Kukkapuro was born in 1933 in Wyborg, Finland. In 1956, he began studying furniture design at the Institute of Applied Arts in Helsinki. After completing his studies, he opened his own studio in 1959, where he focused on designing functional furniture. In 1964, he designed his famous Karuselli lounge chair, inspired by his own the print in the snow. The chair can be found in well-known museums such as MoMA in New York. Starting in the 1970s, he decided to turn his attention to minimalist designs. In response to the postmodern trends of the 1980s, his designs became more expressive. Throughout his career, Kukkapuro had many of his designs manufactured by the Finnish company Haimi. In his designs, Kukkapuro always chooses functionality over form. He always sees it as his challenge to create functional, durable and comfortable furniture using as little material as possible.
Although this design classic is in good condition, it should be mentioned that it is a vintage model. The leather is in patinated condition with slight signs of wear and use that contribute to the vintage character of the chair. The fiberglass shows signs of use on the armrests and the metal base has signs of use such as scratches and minor damage to the lacquer. This has been taken into account in the price. All elements are original
