In the 1950s and 1960s, Torvits worked for several major Danish companies, including furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen, for whom he designed tubular steel and wooden chairs. He also worked for the porcelain company Bing & Grøndahl, for whom he designed table services. During the 1970s, Torvits continued to work in furniture, but also turned his attention to other areas such as lighting and office accessories. His designs include the Zephyr table lamp for Le Klint. Torvits was known for his minimalist, functional style and skilful use of materials. His designs were widely exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, and he won numerous awards for his work. Today, his creations are part of the permanent collections of many museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen.
