Karl Auböck was an Austrian designer who was born in Vienna in 1924 and died there in 1985. He was the son of Karl Auböck Senior, a famous woodcarver. After studying sculpture at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, Karl Auböck joined the family business, which manufactured decorative brass objects. It was here that he began to develop his own style, designing functional brass objects such as ashtrays, key rings and letter openers. Over time, Auböck's designs became increasingly modern and minimalist. He also began experimenting with other materials, such as wood and glass. His most famous creations include the "Octopus" series of brass key rings, the "Lollipop" ashtrays and the "Hundertwasser" magazine holders. Today, Auböck's creations are still highly prized by collectors and modern design enthusiasts. The family business also continues to produce original pieces and faithful reproductions of Auböck's original designs.
