About the Artist
Cuno Fischer (1914–1973)
Cuno Fischer was an influential German artist and designer, renowned for his innovative work in ceramics and glass. From 1962 to 1972, he collaborated with Rosenthal’s Studio Line, creating a series of bowls and vases with tribal-style reliefs, inspired by scarification motifs. His designs for Rosenthal became iconic, merging traditional craftsmanship with bold, modern elements. He also worked with Hutschenreuther, producing similarly distinctive ceramic pieces, and designed unique art glass and functional glassware for Gral Glass Works.
In 1953, Fischer joined a southern French Romani family, adopting Marianne Adam, and later returned to Germany in 1963, where he built a custom-designed studio. His career also included notable work in stage design and art criticism, contributing to his enduring legacy in postwar German art and design.
