Product description
Mid-century buffet-cabinet, catalog no. U-450, designed by Jiri Jiroutek. It is made of beech wood, veneer, plywood and laminate. In excellent condition, completely refurbished. This furniture is from the famous Universal series (U-450), designed in 1958 for the Czechoslovak national company Interiér Praha by Czech designer Jiří Jiroutek. The success of the Czech pavilion at Ex-'58 in Brussels was followed by the rise of the modernist style (called "Brussels style" in Czechoslovakia). One of the most prominent representatives of the Brussels style are the cabinets and chests of drawers of the U-450 series with typical pastel colors and sloping legs.In Czechoslovakia in the 1960s and 1970s, they could be found in almost every modern home. These cabinets were unique not only in their design, but also in their technological innovation, which allowed their mass production and availability at a time when the demand for furniture was enormous in Czechoslovakia. These cabinets were one of the first to be manufactured from pre-prepared parts, from which they were then assembled. The same technological process allowed the manufacture of cheaper furniture and the expansion of companies such as IKEA.This furniture is an original from the 60s, we have completely renovated it to meet today's standards.
