A model of German design history:
Rare, purist chair from Hans Kaufeld with amazingly good seating comfort.
The design dates from the late 60s. (see last photo: cover of the Italian architecture and lifestyle magazine "Interni" from July 1969).
Construction:
Chrome-plated sled base - sturdy tubular / flat steel construction (Ø 20 mm / 10 x 50 mm).
The generous, opulent seat (circular: Ø 46 cm) and the wide, semi-circular backrest/armrest element are covered with the very robust original covers made of black Skai leather.

Manufacturer and design:
In 1920, Martha and Hans Kaufeld founded an upholstered furniture factory in Bielefeld-Brake in East Westphalia (Germany).
After the horrors of the Second World War, in which Hans Kaufeld was also killed in a bombing raid, his wife Martha rebuilt the upholstery workshops together with her daughter Dorothea.
This was followed by an extremely successful company development. The Hans Kaufeld brand became internationally renowned and still stands for the highest quality craftsmanship and timeless design in the furniture industry today.
In the 1990s, the company was taken over by top Swiss leather furniture manufacturer De Sede (CH) before being acquired by Bielefelder Werkstätten (D) in 2011/2012.
Today, the Hans Kaufeld furniture brand belongs to the JAB-Anstoetz Group (D).
The design is attributed to Geoffrey Harcourt (GB) and Josef Pentenrieder (D), who worked for Kaufeld in the 1950s and 1960s.

Condition: Used furniture - well-kept and thoroughly cleaned condition. The steel construction has visible signs of use with lots of patina and chrome loss in places. (see photo) Upholstery and imitation leather cover are still in very good condition with unobtrusive signs of wear and slight bumps on the backrest. Very nice, authentic overall look!
