Last week, the Design Market team had the pleasure of visiting the exhibition 'Charlotte Perriand's New World', currently on show at the Fondation Louis Vuitton! Alongside Picasso, Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Fernand Léger, the exhibition takes us into the fascinating work of this avant-garde artist. Alongside Picasso, Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Fernand Léger, the exhibition takes us on a fascinating journey through the work of this avant-garde artist. Through 11 galleries in the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the exhibition's remarkable scenography retraces the life of this extraordinary architect. From her encounters with Le Corbusier and Jeanneret to her life in Japan during the 2nd World War, visitors are invited to wander between iconic pieces of French design and masterpieces of modern art. A MODERN LIFE Her collaboration with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret began when she graduated from the Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs, and it was during these 10 years of artistic exchange that some of Charlotte Perriand's most iconic works were created, such as the "LC" collection, which is still being reissued today by Cassina. Charlotte Perriand's life was also marked by projects as ambitious as they were incredibly modern, including the creation of the Les Arcs ski resort, which visitors are invited to discover through some surprising works. This project, one of the architect's most accomplished, is once again in keeping with her love of minimalism: she banned car traffic and optimised the view with the distinctive shape of the resort's buildings. "I love the mountains deeply. I love it because I need it, and it has always been the barometer of my physical and moral equilibrium. Why do you think that is? Because the mountains offer us the opportunity to surpass ourselves that we need. I love it because I need it, and it has always been the barometer of my physical and moral equilibrium. Inspired by the country's distinctive way of life, she adapted to the Japanese style and decided to Japaneseise her iconic pieces by using new materials and adapting the shape. Charlotte's travels and nature inspired her, and from Japan to Brazil, her work was constantly nourished by her life experiences.
