Olivier and Pascal Mourgue are two French designer brothers. They are renowned throughout the world for their ability to rightly combine a taste for comfort and beauty.
Olivier is the designer of famous models such as the chaise longue, armchairs and sofa Djinn (1964) present in the film "2001, A Space Odyssey" by Stanley Kubrick. The Joker (1960s) heater is also an iconic piece.
Pascal, for his part, has left his mark on 20th century design with various creations such as the Biscia chair(1969), the Smala sofa-bed (2000s), or the low armchair shown below (1980).
Biography
Olivier and Pascal Mourgue were born in 1939 and 1943 respectively in France. They are both graduates of the Ecole Boulle and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris.
Olivier has worked for major companies such as Renault, Mobilier International and Airborne. He was a professor at the Brest School of Art. Pascal has also designed furniture for major publishers such as Cassina, Knoll or Cinna. At the end of his career, he devoted himself to artistic creation. They have each received numerous awards such as the Grand Prix National de la création industrielle (1991). Their creations are present in beautiful museums like the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum or the Museum of Modern Art in New York. They are key figures in 20th century French design.
