He is one of the great names of Reconstruction. The pieces he designed are characteristic of his ingenuity, his taste for sobriety and his desire to create simple, accessible design. His many successes include the legendary Diamant chair (1957), for which he was awarded the Grand Prix du Pavillon Français at the Brussels International Exhibition in 1958. René-Jean Caillette was born in France in 1919. He studied at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués, graduating top of his class. In a post-war context, the need for reconstruction was inevitable. With this in mind, he became interested in mass-produced furniture. He met Marcel Gascoin, with whom he shared a desire to standardize prices for signed furniture. They founded the Association des Créateurs de Mobilier de Série (ACMS). He is also one of the founders of Groupe Saint-Honoré and Groupe 4. He regularly exhibited his creations at the Salon des Arts Ménagers and the Salon des Arts Décoratifs. In 1952, he was awarded the Prix René Gabriel. Caillette left his mark on the history of design through his determination to make design accessible to all.
