Mario Botta

His pieces of furniture are characterized by the presence of chrome, metal and cylindrical shapes. His seats are particularly known: the Prima, Seconda, Quarto and Quinta (1986) chairs are mythic pieces. Biography Mario Botta was born in 1943 in Mendrisio. After a draftsman building training, he studied architecture in Venice and he graduated in 1969. He met Le Corbusier and Louis I. Kahn during an internship. These meetings have changed his vision of architecture. In 1970, he founded his own agency in Lugano. He built more than 300 buildings including the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, the Santo Volto church in Turin and the Cymbalista Heritage Centre in Tel Aviv. Botta received several international rewards such as the 2005 prize by the International Academy of Architecture, the European Union Prize and the Merit Award for Excellence in Design. He is a key personality of architecture and design.
