Stoppino
A prolific designer, he created a host of beautiful pieces, including the "Maia" chair (1969), the "Bino" lamp (1969) and the "Alessia" chair (1970). Giotto Stoppino was born in Milan in 1926. He studied in Venice and Milan, graduating in 1951. From 1953 to 1968, he worked for Vittorio Gregotti and Lodovico Meneghetti's firm "Architetti Associati". At the same time, he joined the Association de dessins et modèles industriels (A.D.I), of which he was president from 1982 to 1984. At the end of the 1960s, Stoppino founded his own architecture and design studio. In 1972, he presented the "537" lamp (Arteluce) and nesting tables (Kartell) at the famous "Italy: the New Domestic Landscape" exhibition in New York. Another symbol of his success: in 1979, he was awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro for the Sheraton buffet. Stoppino's innovative vision has had a profound impact on Italian design.
