Parry
Over the course of his career, he designed a large number of pieces, including such great successes as the 1611 armchair, of which over 60,000 were produced. He also designed a Plexiglas dining chair in human form (1947) and an armchair with adjustable back (1950), as well as a modular piece of furniture with multiple functions: sofa, armchair and bed (1959). Parry was born in 1925 in the Netherlands. He studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, where he met such great teachers as Cor Alons, Paul Schuitema and Gerrit Rietveld. In 1950, the designer opened his own studio. From 1954 to 1958, he collaborated with Emile Truijen. Together, they designed some very fine pieces. Parry worked not only on interior design, but also on stands and exhibitions. He also designed furniture, jewelry and toys. He taught architecture at the Willem de Kooning Academy of the Arts for 30 years. The PTT mailbox he designed won second prize at the Milan Triennale in 1957. His work is exhibited in many Dutch museums.
