He was convinced of the importance of the functionality. During his entire career, he designed equipment in series, minimalist wooden furniture and he facilitated interior design by creating easy elements to integrate. The Stuhl chair (1950), the Marguerite table (1950) and the Trèfle stool (1950) are renowned pieces of furniture of the designer.
Biography
Marcel Gascoin was born in France in 1907. After a joiner-cabinetmaker training, he studied architecture at the School of Decorative Arts. In 1930, on the recommendation of Robert Mallet-Stevens, he joined the Union of Modern Artists (UAM). Four years later in the Jean Prouvé’s workshop, he participated to the realization of a steel ship’s cabin. During the war, Gascoin began researches about the rational approach. He met with great success after he designed modular furniture. He decided to found the ARHEC Company to manufacturer his own creations. Thanks to his talent to design modern pieces and to his desire to propose creations for the greatest number, Gasoin has a real reputation.
