Martin VISSER

Although his pieces may look factory-made, they are in fact all handcrafted. A fastidious and meticulous designer, Visser's vintage furniture is of the highest quality. The SZ63 lounge chair (1960) is a perfect example of his taste for clean, simple lines. Biography Martin Visser was born in the Netherlands in 1922. He studied civil engineering at the Technical College. He then worked as an architect, before designing his first piece of furniture for a friend. A gifted and passionate young man, he joined the furniture design department of a famous Dutch store: De Bijenkorf. In 1954, Visser began his collaboration with the publisher Spectrum, developing his taste for functional design. In the 70s and 80s, he worked as a curator for the Boysmans-va Beuning Museum in Rotterdam. He developed a new, more baroque style. His wife, Joke van der Heijden, also played a major role in his inspirations: she was responsible for the choice of colors.
