He graduated from Milan Polytechnic in 1964. During his university years, he worked at Franco Albini and completed his practical training by assiduously attending his father's construction sites. Between 1965 and 1970, many research and work trips led him to the United States and Great Britain. It was during this period that he met Jean Prouvé, with whom he forged friendships that would have a profound influence on his work. 1971, he created the firm Piano & Rogers with Richard Rogers, his partner in the Centre Pompidou project in Paris. In 1977, he opened the Piano & Rice Workshop, with the engineer Peter Rice, who accompanied him for many years and collaborated on many projects until his death in 1993. Finally, he founded the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, which has headquarters in Paris and Genoa and employs nearly 100 people (architects, engineers and specialists). In the 1980s, he designed the Teso series for FontanaArte, consisting of a table, a library and a console. These furnishings with an extraordinary personality are designed with glass as the main raw material and become monoblocks thanks to a supporting structure of metal tie rods.
