Gillon moved to Brazil with his family in 1928, at the age of nine. He studied architecture at the University of Rio de Janeiro before working for renowned architects such as Lucio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer. In 1953, Gillon founded his own design studio, where he began creating furniture using traditional Brazilian techniques. He worked with local craftsmen to create hand-carved solid wood pieces, often combined with leather and other natural materials. Over the years, Gillon has become known for his unique style that combines modern forms with traditional Brazilian elements, such as indigenous motifs and natural materials. He was also influenced by European designers such as Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand. Some of his most famous works include the Jangada armchair, the Pétala chair and the Jurerê table. Gillon has won numerous awards for his work, including the São Paulo Biennale prize in 1961 and the Brazilian Art Critics Association prize in 1972.
