About this vintage design furniture
Mathieu produced an arsenal of striking chandeliers, often very baroque and finished with glossy materials like glass beads. This lamp belongs to a series, named ‘Luberon’, which is more sober in material but rich in form. The extraordinary shape of this light sculpture brings to mind the sophisticated twirling structure of an escargot or the endless spiral staircase in an Escher drawing.
